Thunder Bay Maritime Festival
SIDEWALK CHALK ART CONTEST

Come showcase your artistic talent and imagination along the Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Trail sidewalk as part of this year’s Thunder Bay Maritime Festival!

Co-hosted by Thunder Bay Arts and Friends of the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary, the theme for the chalk art contest is: “Celebrate Great Lakes Treasures!”

The contest is open to ALL and includes the following divisions and registration fee.

 

DIVISIONS   REGISTRATION FEE (Includes box of 48 brightly colored, washable sidewalk chalks)
Children 10 and under $5 (Require onsite adult supervision and signature on registration form.)
Youth 11 to 17 $5 (Require adult signature on registration form.)
Adults 18 and up $10
Family/Team (up to 4 members) $15 (Requires at least one adult if children 10 and under are part of the team.)

A box of 48 brightly colored chalks are included as part of each registration. Only chalks provided at registration can be used for the contest. No personal art supplies will be allowed. Artists can bring their own unscented hair spray to use as a temporary fixative.

REGISTRATION DEADLINE: To be eligible to compete in the contest and win prizes, registrations must be received by noon, July 3rd.

Due to the need to order supplies, no refunds will be available.

WALK-INS can participate for fun the day of the contest until chalk supplies run out. However, walk-ins’ art work will not be part of the judging process or eligible to win prizes.

JUDGES: Professional artists and art teachers will serve as judges. Judges will not be eligible to participate in the contest for prizes and must recuse themselves from judging any immediate family member’s chalk art entry.

SCHEDULE:

July 3
12:00 pm: Registrations for eligibility to win prizes must be received

July 4
10:00 am: Check-in at Sidewalk Chalk-Art Tent begins. Artists can begin creating their Sidewalk Chart Art masterpiece in their designated square
10:00 am – 2:00 pm: View artists at work
2:00 pm: Sidewalk chalk artists participating in the contest must complete their masterpiece
2:00 – 3:00 pm: Official judging
3:00 – 3:45 pm: People’s Choice Award judging ($1 per vote, proceeds to benefit Alpena Fireworks Fund)
4:00 pm: Awards
