On Earth Day, April 22 at 10:00 am we’ll be sharing a FREE underwater Live Stream from the waters surrounding the Bruce Power nuclear generating station on Lake Huron. It’s one of the most visually striking and least-seen environments in the Great Lakes, a place often called “fish city” because of the incredible density and diversity of life. This live stream will be produced by Inspired Planet Productions, creators of the film All Too Clear, which headlined the 2024 Thunder Bay International Film Festival, and the upcoming PBS series Hidden Below.

The live stream will feature Inspired Planet Production filmmakers and underwater explorers Yvonne Drebert and Zach Melnick, and they will be joined by fish biologist Dr. Nicholas Mandrak and Bruce Power scientist Dr. Cherie-Lee Fietsch. Together, they’ll explore this ecosystem in real time using a cutting-edge underwater robot. Viewers can expect close encounters with species like bowfin, bigmouth buffalo, smallmouth bass, and massive schools of gizzard shad, all drawn to the plant’s warm outflow. In this dynamic environment, there’s always the potential for surprises.

The live stream will play in the theater of the Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center. This is a free event and open to all.
Great Lakes Now will produce this event in partnership with Inspired Planet Productions.
