Today in Alpena, 12 student teams competed in the MATE Great Lakes Regional ROV Competition. This annual event encourages students from all over the Great Lakes to learn and apply science, technology, engineering, and math skills as they design and build underwater robots to complete missions that simulate real-world challenges from the ocean and Great Lakes workplace.

The top team in Ranger Class, will now proceed to the International Competition in Kingsport, Tennessee on June 20-22, are:

First Place Ranger Class: Underwater Research Robots (UR2), Alpena High School, Alpena, MI

The competition also had two other classes.  The winners are:

First Place Navigator ClassRC ROV, Rogers City Schools, Rogers City, MI

First Place Scout ClassEducational Robotics Association, St. Francis School, Petoskey, MI

Alpena’s Underwater Research Robots also won 1st Place Technical Report, 1st Place Marketing Display, 1st Place Product Demonstration, and the Ford Family Engineering Award.

Thunder Bay Junior High’s Team, Huron the Bottom, won 3rd Place Overall in Ranger Class.

Alcona School’s 4-H Team, The Pineapples, won 3rd Place Overall in Navigator Class.

Thunder Bay Junior High & Ella White Elementary Combined Team in Navigator Class won 2nd Place Overall & 1st Place Marketing Display.

Rogers City School’s Team, RC ROV,  also won, 1st Place Product Presentation and Product Demonstration in Navigator Class:
