Every year Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary brings the world of cinema to Alpena! In January, northeast Michigan is treated to some of the most impressive ocean and Great Lakes films from around the world. Student Film Competition

Call for Entries is now open
Submission Deadline: January 4, 2022
Inspired by special places, like NOAA’s National Marine Sanctuary sites in the Great Lakes, student achievements in watershed science and stewardship, and hosted by the annual Thunder Bay International Film Festival in Alpena, Michigan, this competition is designed to give high school students an opportunity to tell their Great Lakes and ocean stories through film. Top entries will be selected to have their films screened at the virtual festival event in January 2022, and prizes will be awarded to top three entries. Films must be three minutes or less and the subject matter must relate to the theme: #ScienceInTheSanctuary.
 This competition is free to enter for all students.
