Join maritime artist and historian Jim Berry for a free sketching class in the exhibits at the Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center on Saturday, March 23 from 10a-12p. Participants will have their choice of sketching a dugout canoe, birch bark canoe, or wooden schooner. Sketching supplies provided. Jim Berry has been a lifelong sketcher beginning with studying commercial art at a technical high school and attending The Art School of the Society of Arts and Crafts in Detroit. After getting a degree in History from the University of Michigan he continued to sketch out projects as a Curator at history museums across Michigan. In retirement, Jim has applied this background to illustrating the maritime history of his schooner captain ancestors.  He has been an instructor at the Flint Institute of Arts and created the Waterways Community Sketching Project in Alcona County in 2018.
