Description:

This four-day summer program introduces high school students to the numerous opportunities for outdoor recreation and education within the region of the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary and encourages them to put down their electronic devices and be present in the moment. Kayaking to and snorkeling a shipwreck, visiting a state park and discovering its sinkholes, climbing the stairs of a historic lighthouse, cruising on the glass-bottom boat Lady Michigan at sunset; these are the activities that will be captured in their handwritten program journal and preserve memories that will last a lifetime. Through a stewardship and historical lens, youth will explore the natural and cultural resources that shaped northeast Michigan, and learn ways to participate in and preserve these treasures for future generations.
